Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered into a search tool is sent directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not retain or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email or other direct message as needed to answer it. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the servers may automatically record basic technical and usage details:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- Device type and operating system
- Your device's IP address
- Browser name and version
- Time spent on viewed pages
- The referring site, when one is reported
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand traffic in aggregate, including which pages are used most and where visits end. A browser can block cookies, although doing so may change how some site features work.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Greene County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to records maintained by the Greene County Sheriff's Records Division, the courts in Stanardsville, the Virginia Department of State Police repository, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not turned into a consumer report or a record about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the site's search boxes. Information submitted through a box is governed by that provider's privacy policy, including its retention and disclosure practices. We do not control those choices. Read the provider's policy before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Greene County Sheriff's Office, Virginia courts, state agencies, legal-aid organizations, or outside search services. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy controls the visit. Review it before providing personal information.
Some advertising companies may use activity across websites to select targeted ads. Their systems, rather than ours, perform that tracking.

We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to these limited recipients:
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and site performance
- Advertising networks that place ads on these pages
- Search partners that process a query submitted through their tool
- Government or law-enforcement bodies when disclosure is compelled by a valid legal order

Standard security measures are used to protect collected data. No internet-connected service can guarantee perfect security, so we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This service is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will delete it promptly.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary with the law that applies where you live. In Virginia, the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Va. Code § 2.2-3700 et seq., governs access to public records, while Va. Code § 19.2-389 controls dissemination of Virginia criminal-history record information. Those laws concern government records and do not turn this private site into a public custodian. Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Request deletion of your data
- Ask to receive a copy of personal data we hold about you
- Opt out of certain processing where that right applies
- Request correction of inaccurate information
